Some of the ways visitors have described experiencing PEEC:
Teaching staff at Pullenvale Environmental Education Centre have designed a way of teaching that can be described as pedagogies of enchantment. Children become enchanted as their senses, their minds and their hearts are awakened to ordinary events such as the sudden movement of wind through the trees, or rain collecting in crystal-clear puddles on the track, or the insistent call of birds and frogs, or reflecting on the wisdom of First Nation peoples whose ancestors walked the land for millennia. Moments of enchantment create a sense of delight and fascination with the natural world and deepen children’s interest in learning more about nature and the places where life continues to thrive.
- Professor Peter Renshaw, University of Queensland, 2020
It's the first time I've seen my students afforded the gift of being 'kids'! It was wonderful to see their joy and wonder through the day.
I felt so alive when I entered here. The trees just welcome you.
When I started walking it was like all the birds awoke and the trees seemed to get bigger and greener.
The trees seemed to make way for us, and the ferns reached for us as we walked.
I became more observant of small details like … shadows of butterflies flying.
I felt nature calling me. I felt calm, I felt like I was at home.
Nature is a big part of our lives. Without it I would be lost.
