At PEEC our central 'classroom' is the outdoors, the natural places we visit on each program, which include areas of Moggill Forest, Karawatha Forest, and Pullenvale Forest Park.
We also have many dedicated indoors and outdoors teaching areas onsite that students spend some time within on each program day (excluding Wander the Way of the Water, a full day traversing and learning from Karawatha forest for Year 6 students). Our on-site 'classroom' spaces include:
Mopoke lunch shed
A bespoke outdoor classroom space constructed specifically for PEEC programs, this space currently hosts students for our Year 1 Forest Kingdom, Year 2 History Hunters and Year 5 Hoodwinked programs - a space to start and finish the day together, as well as for breaks.
Laidley lunch shed
This lunch shed was relocated from Laidley South State School (along with the key teaching building, now Laidley Theatre) in the late 1980s. Currently, this outdoor classroom space hosts students for our Year 2 Muddles, Year 3 Mission Earth program, senior primary Student Leadership day, and as an alternative to Mopoke for our Year 2 History Hunters program - a space to start and finish our day together, as well as to take breaks. For our Year 4 'Bugs 'R' Us' students, it also becomes the Conference 'Bug Hub', where they can undertake independent research into insects and arthropods using our microscopes, books, and pet insects.
Arts Office covered deck
The second outdoor classroom space purpose-contructed for PEEC programs, the Arts Office Deck currently hosts kindergarten students attending our Tulmur Outdoor Classroom day, prep students for our Ramble 'n' Play program, year 6 students visiting for our Artist in Residence programs, and educators participating in our Connected Teacher and Connected Leader professional development courses.
Arts Office
The original Pullenvale State School teacher residence now operates as the PEEC arts office, providing space for our visiting year 6 artists to create and present their works during our Artist in Residence programs, and for some of our educator professional development sessions.
Laidley 'Theatre'
Becomes 'Mrs Mudle Up's pretend-magic room among the trees' for our Year 2 Muddles students, a 'space ship' for our Year 3 Mission Earth students, the 'Gubon Enterprises Annual Arthropods Conference room' for our Year 4 Bugs 'R' Us students, and is also utilised as a workshop space for our Connected Teacher, Connected Leader and Student Leader programs.
Old Pullenvale Schoolroom
Facilitates students 'stepping back in time' to experience what learning in an early 1900s classroom might have been like during our Year 2 History Hunters and Year 5 Hoodwinked programs.
Dayboro Cottage
Becomes 'Grandma Whittacker's special sitting space' for our Year 1 Forest Kingdom students, and our 'evidence gathering' discussion and planning space for our Year 5 Hoodwinked students.
Ballard Cottage
One of the original Pullenvale farming cottages, Ballard House provides Year 2s on the History Hunters program with an insight into daily life and household technology at the turn of the 20th century.
