Blanket Role – Earth Artists
Throughout the year our Artist in Residence (AIR) program offers a range of activities and workshops to selected year 6 students of local schools as negotiated through the Pullenvale Environmental Education Centre (PEEC) and school principals. The workshops run between 1–3 days. These visual or performing arts workshops are specifically designed to achieve a deeper engagement and sense of connectedness to themselves, others and place through a focus on reflective thinking and environmental themes. During these workshops students have dedicated time, space, resources, specialist instruction and immersion in the processes of the specific arts-based mediums of dance, drama, singing and/or various visual arts.
The PEEC artist workshops involve immersion in a studio environment where visual and performing arts disciplines are taught so that grade six students can experience authentic practice. Student-centred experiential learning is supported by scaffolded explicit teaching away from the regular school environment and in connection with the natural world.
The PEEC Artists in Residence workshops remain highly relevant in the context of the Australian Curriculum. These experiential master classes enable the development of specific skills that simultaneously enrich arts practice and support the growth of intellectual, emotional and physical abilities within the whole person. Though the AIR workshops, students are offered the opportunity for extended Arts learning. Embedded within the programs are opportunities to extend students’ general capabilities of ethical behaviour, critical and creative thinking, social and personal competence, literacy, and the cross curricular priorities of sustainability and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders’ histories and cultures are enhanced.
This program is offered subject to space and teacher availability. Available dates can be negotiated upon demand (minimum 12 students). To express interest in your students attending an Artists in Residence workshop,
